Vanitas

Vanitas

'Vanitas' is a term applied to a kind of still life painting common in the 17th century. In making this work photographer Mike Golding was concerned with exploring the everyday experience of ordinary people as well as that of Ashington as a town. A series of "Old Master" style still life images were created from objects collected from local shops. These were presented as two photographic billboards on Station Rd West, with details from these images displayed as lamppost banners.
