Civic Heart
Chester le Street District Council selected artist Jo Fairfax to plan and design a new Civic Heart that would encourage community use whilst helping to reinforce feelings or pride, identity and distinctiveness.
The shape of the Civic Heart was inspired by the nearby railway viaduct and the use of red brick as a subtle acknowledgment to Chester-le-Street's Roman heritage. The archway was designed to act as a stage and central focal point for future events to take place.
