Spennymoor Letters
Artist Ira Lightman was commissioned by Sedgefield Borough Council to produce ten visual poems for the town, working from texts produced by the local comunity through workshops and an open call for entries. The poems were presented as a series of letter shaped sculptures that spell the name S-P-E-N-N-Y-M-O-O-R on the walls around the town.
Working in collaboration with designer Dan Civico and with further investment from the Borough Council the project was developed to create three gateway features which create a visual connection between the town's centre and its the major entry points.
