Commissions North

40,000 Years of Modern Art

40,000 Years of Modern Art

Commissioned by the property development company, Terrace Hill Group PLC, with the support of Tees Valley Regeneration.

The commission takes its title from a Roland Penrose curated exhibition of the same name, held at the ICA in the late 1940's.

The sculpture was made with the specific location in mind, and although it is not reductively figurative, it is reminiscent of figurative experience. It is intended to engage visitors in a game of recognition.
