In 2004 English Heritage invited 12 of Britain’s most innovative and enigmatic fashion designers to respond to the magnificent neo-classical mansion Belsay Hall, it’s castle and grade 1 listed gardens, with art installations rather than garments.
Husband and wife team Suzanne Clements and Inacio Ribeiro's vision was inspired by Belsay’s romantic quarry gardens. They worked with art director Simon Costin to create an extraordinary multicoloured 'monolith' filled with shredded clothing, which was sited within the quarry.
