In celebration of the Grainger Market’s multi-million pound refurbishment Newcastle City Council supported a programme of five temporary artworks and one permanent art piece to be installed within the venue.
Inspired by the unique building and atmosphere of the market, which was an integral part of the nineteenth century Grainger Town development, they were commissioned to add a new dimension to the public art in the city.
Michael Houlden presentated three giant multi-coloured curtains, that hung from the roof of the market, to celebrated the familiar tackiness of the traditional household fly curtain.
