Commissions North has fulfilled a successful function within Arts Council England, North East over the last ten years. It has made a significant contribution to a region where the value of public art is now widely accepted by both public and private sectors and increasingly delivered by a wide range of bodies.
In the context of the Arts Council's organisation review, with the need to save £6.5 million, it has been decided that Arts Council should no longer deliver this and similar services directly. We will however provide strategic advice around commissioning.
Commissions North will continue to assist in the development of public art commissions until the end of March 2010. We will be considering how we ensure future use of a number of assets such as the Commissions North web site, guidance material and image bank over the coming period.
